Our New Southeast Camp Director, Blake!

As Brave Trails continues to expand and thrive, we are thrilled to announce that next summer we will host our first full camp session in the Southeast. Alongside our West Coast and East Coast sessions, we will be running a 9-day overnight LGBTQ+ leadership summer camp in the Metro Atlanta area of Georgia! We are excited to be closer to youth in this region and hope this expansion brings resources and queer joy to the South.

We're thrilled to announce Blake Mitchell (they/he) as our Camp Director for the Southeast! Blake (they/he) began their involvement with Brave Trails in 2021 as a cabin counselor. Over the years, they've volunteered at our California, New York and Georgia sites, serving as a Head Counselor, Cabin Counselor, A-Team member and Social Media Coordinator, as well as leading numerous drag build-on programs and workshops. Blake was the driving force behind the expansion of Brave Trails to the Southeast and now leads our Atlanta-based Family Camp and Summer Camp programs.

Outside Brave Trails, Blake owns their own consulting firm, Blake Mitchell Consulting, which focuses on corporate diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging programs. Blake is also a founder and managing partner at BE Labs, an HR technology and consulting firm. Previously, Blake worked at Google in San Francisco for over 8 years where they managed teams in diversity & inclusion, learning & development and recruiting operations and enablement. A Georgia native, Blake moved back to the Southeast in fall 2022 to work as an Operations Manager on Stacey Abrams’ campaign for Governor. Blake began their career in film production in Los Angeles and holds bachelor’s degrees in International Business, Finance, and Entertainment & Media Studies from the University of Georgia.
